We had our first ultrasound last week. Pretty amazing really, the embryo is less than 1cm in length (size of a pencil eraser) and we could watch the heart beat. They could even calculate that the heart was beating 123 times per minute, which is normal for this stage in its development. It will continue to beat faster until the second trimester, when it will begin to develop beats more like ours. They measured the baby from crown to rump and estimated that the baby was 6 1/2 weeks along at that time, making him/her now 7 weeks old!
